HORSE TRAINING FOR DUMMIES
Horse Cost Calculator: Monthly, Annual & First-Year Budget
Use your own quotes to calculate ongoing horse care costs, annual bills, startup purchases and a separate emergency savings contribution.
Add monthly costs, annual bills and one-time purchases. All amounts start at zero; these are your planning figures, not market-price estimates.
How the calculation works
- Annual care: monthly costs × 12, plus annual bills.
- Monthly equivalent: annual care ÷ 12.
- First-year spending: annual care plus one-time starting costs.
- Monthly cash plan: monthly equivalent plus monthly savings.
- First-year plan: first-year spending plus 12 months of savings.
Changing the currency only changes the display symbol. It does not convert your amounts. Include taxes and delivery in your quotes. Add anything missing in the “other” fields. A zero total means no costs have been entered, not that ownership is free.
A FEW COMMON QUESTIONS
Good questions. Clear answers.
Does the calculator include the horse purchase price?
Only if you enter it under one-time starting costs. Transport, initial equipment and setup also belong there when applicable.
Is there a standard monthly cost?
Costs depend on location, facilities, services and the individual horse. Request current local quotes rather than treating a generic figure as your budget.
Are my budget entries saved?
No. This calculator does not save inputs after you leave or refresh the page. Print your completed budget if you want a copy.
